East Brooklyn Business Improvement District Industrial Initiatives - East Brooklyn Business Improvement District (EBBID)
In all of New York City there are only two industrial BIDs: one is in Manhattan’s Garment District, and the other is in East Brooklyn. Created in 1984, the EBBID is funded by a tax assessment paid by businesses in the district. The East Brooklyn Business Improvement District provides numerous services to the area, from coordination with city agencies to grounds keeping and brush removal. The BID also helps increase community awareness of local businesses by fostering a positive relationship between business owners and residents. For instance, when the Department of Transportation announced plans for reconstruction of four area bridges that connect East New York with Brownsville, EBBID intervened to ensure that the city would work on only one bridge at a time in order to avoid severe congestion. The EBBID collects over 100 tons of debris every year, and has spearheaded efforts to stop the scourge of illegal dumping in East New York. For more information about the East Brooklyn Business Improvement District, contact Bill Wilkins, EBBID Manager. |
